Read Across America Day
Why Dr. Seuss?
When you think of books that are fun to read, with a rhyme, and just plain fun, you think of Dr. Seuss books. Read Across America Day was designed to foster the love of reading in all children. This is accomplished with reading activities all day long on a particular day. The day that was chosen was March 2nd. This was the day that Dr. Seuss was born.
Read Across America is supported by the National Education Association, Washington Education Association, Auburn School District, Lakeland Hills Elementary, and many more groups and organizations. On or around March 2nd, you will find fun activities involving reading going on all over the country.
Lakeland Hills Elementary’s 2008 Main Event!
Last year, our Dr. Seuss Night was so much fun; we wanted to do it again. We had great activities, great readers, and great fun. This year we are continuing our tradition by bringing a new twist to the many works of Dr. Seuss.
Did you know that many of Dr. Seuss’ books were written with nonfiction themes? Dr. Seuss wrote several books based on current events and satires of realistic things. We are going to compare and contrast many of the works of Dr. Seuss with real stories and real events. As Dr. Seuss Fiction goes up against Nonfiction, we will have a ringside seat for all the action! Who will win?!
Activities such as painting, drawing, reading, moving, figuring (math), cooking, mapping, and many more will accompany each stationed activity. Travel around to each event and discover for yourself who will win each round. Have a great time!
